March 2006

We were in Bohol in 2004 and during that time, we stayed at Alona Palm Beach Resort and Restaurant. At the time that we booked with them, they were efficient in answering e-mails and in taking care of our reservations.

Bohol is about an hour-and-a-half away from Manila by plane. Its capital is Tagbilaran and is located in the Visayas. It is fast becoming a favorite destination among local tourists and foreigners and with good reason.

Here’s yet another resort in Cebu which we will probably want to visit in the coming years: Badian Island Resort and Spa. The resort appears attractive, as we see from its website or as we read in feature articles, but the distance (ranging from 2 hours and half to 2 hours and 45 minutes) from the Cebu International Airport keeps us from visiting it while our kids are quite small.

This is one resort in Cebu that we have not yet been to. It is on our “to-go-to” list although I guess we will have to save a lot before visiting the place becomes a reality. I just checked their website awhile ago, and the rates now range from USD 300 to about USD 900 per night! Yes, that expensive. So at the back of my mind, even if the place does seem beautiful, you think that you could have gone on 3 trips with that one trip at Pulchra.

Yet another alternative resort in Cebu is the Maribago Bluwater Resort. It is again 15-30 minutes from the airport.

The most memorable thing there for my kids would be the swimming pool with the slide and the playroom. Activities are not as organized, nor as plentiful as in Plantation Bay or Shangri-la Mactan. Prices/rates are more reasonable.

Plantation Bay is another resort which is conveniently located about 15-30 minutes from the Mactan Airport. We visited the place when my daughter Ali was barely a year old (she’s now 4) and the resort is quite kid and baby-friendly.
